Introduction:
"Kraft paper" (originally titled "Jõupaber") is a cartoon made in coal-drawing stop motion animation technique on paper and taken shot under the camera. It is my second animation studies graduation film from Estonian Academy of Arts.
The idea of the story was born from the worry of rapid deforestation policy in Estonia and around the world. I used paper and charcoal as a symbolic tools to create the film. Both are products of trees. Both symbolizes the death of trees.
Synopsis:
"Kraft paper" is above all, a story about the responsibility our heads of state have to nature. Money and power will make a person so greedy, until they don’t realize the damage it has done to nature. The film examines Estonian forest policy and sees it through the eyes of environmental activists. Estonians, as a forest nation, mourn the loss of their woods while trying to protect what’s still remaining. Politicians, on the other hand, shrug their shoulders and deal only in profit sharing. All that matters to them is economic prosperity and their own wallet, in the name of which they agree to harm the Estonian environment. Will the activists still be able to save the situation by reaching the back rooms of the government?
